Commonwealth War Graves Commission maintained cemetery
The Bethune Town Cemetery is a First World War cemetery located in Bethune in the French department of Pas-de-Calais. The cemetery is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
History: During the first part of the 14-18 war, Bethune was relatively well off the bombings, the city had a large railway node and a hospital. The 33rd Casualty Station was established in the city until December 1917. In early 1918, Bethune began to suffer from artillery fire from the German army. In April 1918, German forces reached Locon, five kilometres north. On May 21, 1918, because of the rage of not having captured Bethune, the Germans launched a bombardment that almost razed the city.
