monument aux morts de Banyuls-sur-Mer
The monument to the dead of Banyuls-sur-Mer is a monument to the dead created by the French sculptor Aristide Maillol located in Banyuls-sur-Mer (Pyrénées-Orientales). It is a stone sculpture in three parts. Originally placed on a promontory facing the sea (Illa Grossa), the monument was moved in 1989 to protect it from the weather and replaced by a bronze copy. Shocked by World War I, Aristide Maillol made four monuments free of charge to the dead in his birth department: in Ceret (1922), Banyuls-sur-Mer (1933), Elne (1921) and Port-Vendres (1923).
