église orthodoxe grecque Saint-Alexandre de Charvieu-Chavagneux
The Church of St. Alexander (in modern Greek: It is notable as the first Orthodox church in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes of contemporary times. Founded by Greeks who arrived during the First World War, the church follows the evolution of the surrounding Greek community and is created when Alexander Grammont, a rich industrialist from the region, offers a hangar to the community to celebrate worship there.
Between 1917 and 1929, the church served as a place of worship for the Orthodox of the region - until the priest in charge was dismissed. From 1929 to the 1960s, the church was occasionally served by the Orthodox clergy of Lyon - and occupied for a time by a uniate priest. In the 1960s, the Métropole orthodox de France reassigned a priest there and the church continued its activities since then.
