The monument to the dead of Anse-Bertrand is a cenotaph located in Anse-Bertrand, Guadeloupe, at the corner of Victor-Schœlcher Street and National Road 6. It was erected in 1935 as a memorial to soldiers who died during World War I fighting and was listed as a historic monument in 2018.
The monument to the dead is a command of the commune, probably dating from 1935, for soldiers who died during the First World War. It is registered as historical monuments by order of 24 April 2018.
Description: The monument to the dead is designed in a metropolitan style, with a white concrete base bearing a bronze entitled Le Poilu au reste, representing a Standing Poilu, cast and weapon at the foot. This bronze is the work of sculptor Léon Leyritz (1888-1976) who made it in 1932. It is produced in series in Metropole by the Durenne Metallurgical Society which also sells it for the monument to the dead of Saint-Louis to Marie-Galante.
