About

The Saint-Étienne Memorial to the Dead is a memorial to the dead located at Fourneyron Square in Saint-Étienne, which pays tribute to the 6,000 Stéphanois who died during the First World War. Since the inauguration of October 23, 1933, a golden book has been buried in the crypt of the monument with the names of all the victims. Later, inscriptions and plaques also pay tribute to the 1939-1945 conflicts, to the martyrs of the internees and deportees, to the victims of Nazi barbarism, in memory of combatants in North Africa and Indochina and all theatres of external operations.
