The Abbey of Nogent-l'Artaud is an abbey of Clarisses, dedicated to Saint-Louis, founded in 1299 by Blanche d'Artois, Countess of Champagne and Queen of Navarre. There are still important remains. The site was listed as Historic Monuments in 1942.
This abbey was founded in 1299 by Blanche, Queen of Navarre and Countess of Champagne, confirmed and enhanced by his daughter Jeanne, wife of Philippe le Bel. The nuns are clarisses of the Order of Saint Francis, modified by Pope Urban IV in 1264; They're urban Clarisses. They're cloistered. Their costume consists of a grey serge dress, tightened with a large white cord with knots. For the choir or ceremonies, they wear a coat like the dress; On the head, they have a black veil, shaped like a capuche. During the Hundred Years War, the abbey was partially dismantled and the nuns expelled in 1339. The English destroyed the abbey several times in 1422, 1427 and 1452.
