The Sainte-Foy de Conques Abbey is an abbey church located in Conques, Conques-en-Rouergue, Aveyron department. Because of its vocation to welcome pilgrims and to worship the relics of Saint Foy, it is called a pilgrimage church and even constitutes the prototype of other large pilgrimage churches, the abbey of Saint-Martial de Limoges, the church of Saint-Sauveur de Figeac, the Basilica of Saint-Sernin de Toulouse and the cathedral of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. Considered a masterpiece of Romanesque art in southern France, it remains especially famous for its tympanum and treasure including unique pieces of art from the Carolingian period, including the reliquary statue of Saint Foy.
This abbey was built from 1041 by Abbé Odolric at the site of the former hermitage of Dadon, dating from the late eighth century. Since 1994, the interior has been decorated with stained glass windows by Pierre Soulages, a child of the country. Benedictine Abbey until 1537, it was then placed under the responsibility of secular canons.
