Archaeological site
Glanum is an ancient city of the Roman Empire, today an archaeological site located in the territory of the commune of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, in the Bouches-du-Rhône. Of Celtic foundation, Glanon (former Greek λαννν) was heavily influenced by Greece. She is dedicated to the Gaulish healing god, Glanis.
She had a peak in the days of the first Roman emperor, Augustus. Its development, protected from the reliefs of the Alpilles, benefited from the presence of a sacred source and the proximity of the Domitian Way. The site presents several strata of occupation, which can be grouped into three major periods: the Celto-Ligurian period, the Hellenistic period and the Roman period.
