fort Suchet
The fort of the Barbonnet, also known as Fort Suchet and then the building of the Barbonnet, is an alpine fortification, located in the commune of Sospel, in the department of Alpes-Maritimes. It is built at the top of Mount Barbonnet, which peaks at 847 meters, able to bar the valley of the Bévéra and the pass of Braus, thus protecting Nice. This summit was strengthened several times: first in 1883-1886, with the construction of a fort Séré de Rivières, which was subsequently modernized from 1891 to 1917 (additions of concrete layers and some shields), then again in 1931-1935, in the form of an artillery work within the Maginot line.
