ouvrage de l'Agaisen
The Agaisen, or Mont-Agaisen, is a fortification part of the Maginot line, located in the commune of Sospel, in the Alpes-Maritimes department. It is a large artillery structure, which, together with its neighbour, had the task of blocking the "hole of the Bévéra", which leads from the Tende Pass to Nice. During the fighting of the Battle of the Alps, its turret fired approximately 1,300 shells at Italian troops from 20 to 23 June 1940.
In October 1944, it was the turn of the Germans to use the turret. Maintained in condition during the Cold War to train engineering personnel, it is now maintained by an association. Located at the top of Mount Agaisen dominant Sospel, the book, maintained by a volunteer association, is visitable.
It is listed in the inventory of historical monuments.
