About

Beaumont-Hamel's Newfoundland Memorial is a memorial to soldiers of the Dominion of Newfoundland who died during the First World War in Beaumont-Hamel commune, Somme department. On a thirty-hectare land, corresponding to the battlefield on which the Royal Newfoundland Regiment was almost destroyed on the morning of the first day of the Battle of the Somme, on the 1 July 1916, a park has been built in which there are several memorials and military cemeteries as well as remains of the battlefield. This memorial belongs to Canada.
