About

The Jacques-Chirac Bridge is a road bridge project, supposed to replace the aging Fleurville Bridge (used daily by more than 6,000 users) which should eventually be demolished. Crossing the Saône, it will connect the commune of Pont-de-Vaux (Bresse) in the department of Ain and the commune of Montbellet (Haut-Mâconnais), in the department of Saône-et-Loire. He will bear the name of the former President of the French Republic, Jacques Chirac.

Its commissioning was scheduled for September 2023, but the project was stopped in 2021 following an action brought by an association. On 21 November 2025, the Conseil d'État agreed with the two departments and confirmed the environmental authorization required for the resumption of the project to rebuild the Fleurville Bridge, with the implementation envisaged by the end of 2029.
