château de Brancion
The château de Brancion is a 12th century old castle, whose remains stand on the territory of the commune of Martailly-lès-Brancion, in the department of Saône-et-Loire, in the region Burgundy-Franche-Comté. It is one of the fourteen exceptional places open to the public gathered for twenty years in the "La Route des châteaux en Bourgogne du Sud".
Protection: The remains of Brancion Castle, including those of the enclosure and the adjoining town gate, are classified as historical monuments by order of 9 June 1977.
Location: The remains of Brancion Castle are located in Tournugeois, on the territory of the municipality of Martailly-lès-Brancion, more precisely on a barred spur overlooking a pass taken by the road linking Cluny to the Saône. The fortress offers from the top of its dungeon an incomparable view at its feet of the small village of Brancion and its Romanesque church, then on an immense expanse of plains and hills.
