About

Saint Vincent Basilica is a Roman Catholic basilica that is now extinct, and formerly located in the centre of Castres, in the French department of Tarn. Founded in 884, destroyed in 1830, it has been rebuilt many times over the centuries. It was an important place of pilgrimage, for it preserved the precious relics of Vincent de Zaragoza.

These were obtained by the abbey of Saint-Benoit de Castres in 863 after their discovery in Spain in 855, after long research on the location of the burial of the saint. The convent of Jacobins or Dominicans, built around 1260 for the Order of Jacobins, was next to the basilica, which served as a place of worship.
