Allée couverte du Crugo

France Saint-Lyphard

About

The covered alley of the Crugo is a covered driveway located in the commune of Saint-Lyphard in the Loire-Atlantique department. The monument is now ruined.

History: In 1870, the monument was dismantled by the owner of the site, who was looking for a legendary treasure. The site was searched in 1897 by Henri Quilgars.

Description: The monument is 10 m long. On the east side, a large cover table is based on two pillars. Three other overturned tables rest more or less on seven blocks aligned from east to west. The largest measure is 3.40 m long by 2.50 m wide and 0.45 m thick. The other two measures 1.80 to 2.20 m. All stones are granite. Quilgars indicates that it has observed a 2 m long and deep burial chest of 1.80 m dug into the rock, the whole being covered by the dolmen. A stone has a basin of about 0.40 m in diameter, with drain. During his search, Quilgars states that he discovered six layers of ash and coal in the funeral chest. Archaeological material was limited to a few pieces of pottery and a piece of fibrolite.
