maison natale de Pierre Bayle
Pierre Bayle's home, a 17th century Protestant philosopher, is located in the main street of the village of Carla-Bayle in Ariège in the Occitanie region (France). Inside the house, a permanent exhibition presents Pierre Bayle's biographical and intellectual journey (1647-1706) and his influence in 17th and 18th century Europe, through a collection of documents, books, objects, videos, as well as the reconstruction of his work firm in Rotterdam. It has been labeled "Maisons des Illustres" since 2012.
The house is also the place of a documentation centre (the Cedre) with a specialized library on Bayle's work and its context (Ariegean protestism, Huguenot diaspora in Europe, philosophy and classical literature). It is finally the headquarters of the association Autour de Pierre Bayle which aims to promote the knowledge of Pierre Bayle and his work through numerous animations.
