The chapel Saint-André du Fossat is located in the commune of Fossat, in the Ariège department, in the Occitanie region.
Description: It is a small 12th century Romanesque church with a simple nave and a cul-de-four apse supported by two foothills, the bell tower has an open bay without bell and an oculus.
Location: It is isolated more than a kilometre north of the village and about 150 m from the Lèze, on the right bank.
History: This chapel of the ancient diocese of Rieux was initiated in the 12th century. The nave was in the state of crystallised ruins, without roof (only the choir was covered), until 2016, when important works were undertaken, including tile cover on the entire building. It is registered as historical monuments by order of 24 April 1941.
Evaluation of the heritage: The Association for the Protection of Historic Monuments of the Fossat works to restore the monument and mobilizes funds to do so.
