About

The Sainte-Barbe Chapel is a missing chapel, formerly located in Wihr-au-Val, in the Haut-Rhin department. Probably built in the early 14th century, the building was rebuilt in the early 16th century and later in the 18th century. Confiscated and then sold to the commune in 1792, following the Revolution, the chapel was transformed into a fire and wood depot.

The building was severely damaged during the bombing of Wihr-au-Val on 18 June 1940, and then, in the absence of repairs, deteriorated in the following decades. The mayor finally demolished the chapel on 16 February 1970, despite numerous protests.
