About

The Gallo-Roman establishment of Stampfloecher-Rothlach is an archaeological site located in the undivided forest of Saint John, on horseback on the territory of the communes of Eckartswiller and Saint-Jean-Saverne, in the European community of Alsace. Composed of a quarry, a habitat area and a necropolis, the settlement was founded in the second century and was abandoned in the second half of the third century, probably due to the collapse of trade in this period of unrest. Already damaged during Storm Lothar in 1999, the site was partially destroyed by the construction of the Saverne tunnel.
