Parish church
église Saint-Roch de Paris
The Saint-Roch church, located at 296 rue Saint-Honoré, at the crossing of Rue Saint-Roch, in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, was built between 1653 and 1722 on the initial plans of Jacques Le Mercier. It is 126 metres long, essentially baroque style, and is one of the largest in Paris. The building has been classified as historical monuments since December 7, 1914.
The church court was the scene of fighting during the royalist insurrection of 13 year IV (October 5, 1795). Piled at the Revolution, the church recovered part of its heritage as well as numerous works of art from other Parisian churches. Always open to worship, it is known as "the parish of artists", referring to those who have been buried there or whose funerals have been celebrated there, but also with reference to the rich collection of works of art preserved there and because it is the chaplaincy of the artists of the show.
