Saint Sulpice Church is a parish Catholic church located in Pierrefonds, France. In Gothic style, it combines a choir with two 13th-century collaterals with a flamboyant double nave from the late Middle Ages. However, the building is of much older origin than the Gothic parts suggest.
The foundation by Lord Nivelon and the beginning of the works date back to the 1060s, and the choir of the first Romanesque church was to be completed in the early 12th century. Do not show that the three arcades making communicate the three vessels of the choir with the two naves, and more importantly the crypt below the choir, sheltering the tomb of Nivelon and the thermal spring having given his name to Pierrefonds. While the western facade, the northern gate and the remplacement of the windows have been very neat, the interior bears witness to an early construction without vaulting and without any ornamentation.
The naves agree poorly with the choir, planned at the base for a simple nave accompanied by downsides. At the same time, the church is spacious and well lit, and the overturned frame of the choir has a nice effect. Very damaged during...
