cathédrale Notre-Dame de Coutances
Notre-Dame de Coutances Cathedral is a 13th-century Norman Gothic Roman Catholic building, the seat of the Diocese of Coutances and Avranches, located in the French commune of Coutances, in the Manche department, Normandy. The cathedral, classified as historical monuments, has as its specificity the rehabulation of certain parts of the Romanesque edifice which preceded it by Gothic elements: under the gothic trim of the nave and the facade towers still stands the Romanesque structure of the 11th century cathedral, which is visible when you go through the upper parts, for example during conference visits. It has two arrows on the front, and a lantern tower.
Typical example of Norman Gothic, it is characterized by very pure lines. She was affectionately nicknamed by the Coutançais: "The Cathedral of Pride", as the local poet Louis Beuve said in My Cathedral of Pride or The Letter to the Dead.
