Church building
église Saint-Samson d'Ouistreham
Saint Samson Church is a Catholic church located in Ouistreham, Calvados, at the mouth of the Orne River. Its position at the height of the village allowed monitoring of the estuary during times of disturbance. Its imposing character and the richness of its decoration are due to the links with the Abbey of the Ladies of Caen and the prosperity of the village during the Anglo-Norman period, that is from the end of the 11th century to the beginning of the 13th century. Despite the numerous restorations at all times, the 12th century nave retained its Romanesque character, while the tower-clocher and choir built at the beginning of the following century are Gothic style transition.
