Saint-Sauveur Cathedral in Aix-en-Provence is a Roman Catholic cathedral located on Gaston-de-Saporta Street in Aix-en-Provence. This building, built on the site of the ancient forum and, according to legend, on the foundations of an ancient temple dedicated to the god Apollo, brings together a multitude of architectural styles, because of the many changes it has undergone over the centuries. Its dimensions are 70 meters long by 46 meters wide.
Its elevation is 20 meters below the vault key. From the facade, we distinguish three stages of construction of the building: first the bare facade of the Romanesque nave was built in the 12th century, followed a few years later by the wall made of antique blocks with bosses, mounted with lively joints on thread beds. The only recent element is the portal that closes the Gothic nave and is dated the 16th century.
Around the cathedral are built over the centuries of the buildings adjacent to it, such as the claustral building of the canon community (end of the 12th century), the cloister buildings (XI in the 13th century) or the bell tower (completed in 1425).
