About

The cairn of Kerleven, is a dolmenic cairn located in the commune of La Forêt-Fouesnant, in the French department of Finistère. It consists of two cairns built successively. The set consists of three bedrooms preceded by a corridor.

History: The site was known but was not included in the first inventories in the 19th century. In 1937, Pierre-Roland Giot drew a sketch of the slabs visible on the surface, but gradually invaded by the brush, the building became invisible to the point where it was temporarily grown extinct. In 1960, the new owner of the property decided to set up a campsite and during the earthworks carried out on site, the building was rediscovered by accident, its top was levelled and the western part of the cairn was practically completely destroyed. With the agreement of the owner, three excavation campaigns were carried out there from 1961 to 1965 and the building was partially restored at the end of the operation. The site is classified as historical monuments by order of 15 April 1965.
