église Saint-Denis-et-Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Saintines
Saint-Denis-et-Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church is a parish Catholic church located in Saintines, in the French department of Oise and the Hauts-de-France region. It is an ancient pilgrimage church, where the faithful came from afar to venerate a relic of Saint John the Baptist, brought back from Crusade by a local lord, and to bathe in the fountain of Saint John the Baptist hoping to heal their ills, especially epilepsy. The flamboyant Gothic double nave meets the needs of welcome to the highlights of the pilgrimage, that is, the eight days from the eve of the feast of Saint John, on June 24 of each year.
The two naves are separated by large open arcades in the north wall of the ancient Romanesque nave, dedicated to Saint Denis. From the Romanesque period, and more precisely the 1120s, also dates the steeple. Its base is at the same time the first span of the Saint-Denis choir, and has one of the oldest warhead vaults in the department.
The Romanesque capitals have unfortunately all been mutilated inside the church, but they remain beside the bell tower bays. The Romanesque choir was replaced by a small Gothic choir at the bedside...
