About

The Saint Joseph Chapel, known as the Visitation, is that of the former convent of the visitandines of Moulins; it was commissioned in 1646. When the lycée de Moulins settled in 1802 at the site of the convent, the chapel became the chapel of the lycée and it remained so until 1998; On that date, it was detached from high school and is now a monument dependent on the city of Moulins. The chapel has been listed as a historic monument since 1928.

Chapelle de la Visitation

Built around 1650 in classical style, it replaces a first chapel commissioned by the founder of the monastery, Venerable Jeanne-Charlotte de Bréchard (1580-1637). It is known for hosting notably the tomb of the Duke of Montmorency executed by François Anguier between 1648 and 1651, at the request of Marie-Félice des Ursins, widow of Henri II of Montmorency.
