About

The LaM - Lille Métropole Musée d'art moderne, d'art contemporain et d'art brut, formerly Musée d'art moderne de Villeneuve d'Ascq and then Musée d'art moderne Lille Métropole, is a French museum located in the heart of Villeneuve d'Ascq urban park in the Lille metropolis, in the Hauts-de-France region. The only museum in Europe to present simultaneously the main components of art of the 20th and 21st centuries (modern art, contemporary art and raw art), its history is confused with that of donations received by the Lille Urban Community. Designed in the 1970s as part of the national policy for the development of new cities, the museum was inaugurated in 1983 to present the collections of Roger Dutilleul and his nephew and heir Jean Masurel, received as a gift by the Urban Community in 1979. The museum then received several funds, including the bequest of Dominique Bozo's library in 1994, before hosting the raw art collection of the root in 1999. From 2006 to 2010, the museum was expanded and renovated to present this new fund to the public.
