arboretum du château de Neuvic d'Ussel
The arboretum of Neuvic d'Ussel castle, with an area of 6.5 ha, is located in the domain of Neuvic d'Ussel castle in Corrèze in the Limousin on the edge of the Auvergne. It's an agricultural landscape park. It extends in a very hilly relief, with a peak at 634 m.
According to the tradition of English parks it offers varied landscapes, which follow each other when you travel the 3 km of herbaceous aisles. It has a bean shape and a piece of water. Near the castle, a full wind orchard and a parish garden created in 2011 complete the visit.
About 370 species of trees and shrubs are represented. The park is a private property, it belongs to the family of Ussel. It has been open to the public since 2007.
The origin of the arboretum dates back to 1830. Jean-Hyacinthe d'Ussel (1809-1891), descendant of one of the oldest families in the region, undertook the creation of the park as soon as the house was rebuilt after the fire of 1822. This sinister destroyed part of the city of Neuvic.
Since 2007, Béatrix d-Ussel, responsible for the estate, has been responsible for restoring the estate, thanks to the advice of landscaper Laurent Berthelier and the support of the DRAC Limousin. More...
