cathédrale Sainte-Eulalie-et-Sainte-Julie d'Elne
The Cathedral of Saint-Julie-et-Sainte-Eulalie in Elne is the seat of the bishop of Elne whose diocese covered the Catalan comarques of Roussillon, Vallespir and Conflent at its creation in 571. It dominates the city and its surroundings from the eminence on which it is built, today "high city". Built in the 11th and 12th centuries, a major monument of Catalan Romanesque art, it was the seat of the bishopric of this northern part of Catalonia from the 6th century until 1602, when it was transferred to Perpignan.
It is dedicated to Saint Julie and Saint Eulalie of Merida. The cloister has been a historic monument since 1840, the church since 1875.
