The Cordeliers Chapel is located in the commune of Saarburg, in the southern part of the Moselle department. This chapel has been the subject of an inscription as historical monuments since 18 December 1992.

History: In 1266 the Franciscan brothers settled in Saarburg, also called Cordeliers because of the rope they wore around the waist. They build their convent in the city centre. A last mass was celebrated in 1792, when the convent was transformed into barracks and the chapel became stables, following the Revolution. During the German annexation of 1870, the chapel of the convent became a place of worship for Protestant soldiers. From 1927 to 1970, the chapel houses the Museum of the Saarsburg Society of History and Archaeology. The old barracks were decommissioned from the military domain in 1947, and its demolition took place between 1955 and 1972. The chapel is nevertheless preserved and restored. To close the gaping hole at the western end of the chapel, the city asks Marc Chagall to create a stained glass window. The theme of the conference was peace and was delivered in 1976.
