The Bois de Boulogne is a wooded area in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. Covering an area of 846 hectares (8.45 km2) in the west of the city, the Bois de Boulogne can be considered as one of the two "lungs" of the French capital and the second green space in Paris on the surface, after the wood of Vincennes located to the east. Two and a half times larger than Central Park in New York, and 3.3 times larger than Hyde Park in London, however, it is 5.9 times smaller than the Soignes forest in Brussels and occupies only half the surface of the Casa de Campo in Madrid.
The Bois de Boulogne occupies part of the site of the old forest of Rouvray. The central part of the wood houses Bagatelle Park and the Pre-Catelan Garden. Its northern part is occupied by the Jardin d'acclimation, an amusement park once famous for its menagerie and today to house the Louis-Vuitton Foundation.
To the south-east lies the greenhouse garden of Auteuil and the racetrack of Auteuil. In the south-west, between the Longchamp Racecourse and Bagatelle Park, there is the Longchamp Golf Course as well as the Longchamp Castle and Estate, which have been home to...
