About

The Porte Neuve is a missing door from Paris on the walls of Charles V which was at the foot of the Tower of the Woods, on the right bank of the Seine, at the approximate level of the current triumphal arch of the Carrousel. It is sometimes mistakenly confused with the door of the Conference, which was also on the right bank of the Seine, but was part of the Louis XIII enclosure, later built and further away from the centre of Paris. It was built in 1537, so long after the Tower of the Woods (1380 approx.) to facilitate entry into Paris.
