The triumphal arch of the Carrousel is a Parisian monument inaugurated on August 15, 1808 and located in Place du Carrousel, in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, west of the Louvre Museum. This triumphal arch has been classified as historical monuments since September 10, 1888. The site is served by Palais Royal Metro Station - Louvre Museum.

History: The square is named after the Grand Carrousel, a military horse riding show given here by Louis XIV, from June 5 to 6, 1662, on the occasion of the birth of his son, the dolphin Louis de France. The triumphal arch of the Carrousel, desired by Napoleon I, celebrates the victories of his armies during the conquests of 1805. Designed by Charles Percier and Pierre Fontaine, he illustrated the 1805 campaign and the surrender of Ulm on October 20, 1805. The monument was erected, between 1806 and 1810, in front of the Tuileries Palace, to which it served as the entrance to honour, a gate separating the courtyard from the palace of the Place du Carrousel, which gave it its name. After the fire of the palace in 1871 and its destruction in 1883, the monument is in the center of the great esplanade formed by the Carrousel Garden and the square of the same name.
