Plateau
Planpraz is a plateau located at an altitude of about 2,000 m on a flat of the Red needles that form the western slope of the Chamonix valley. It is connected to Chamonix via a cable car. It was originally a cable car, carried by concrete towers, and opened in the 1920s.
It was converted into a cable car in 1979, keeping the original towers. The installation was completely renewed in 2008: the Chamonix-Planpraz section was reopened on 20 December 2008. A second section, still equipped with a cable car, connects Planpraz to the top of the Brévent and constitutes the cable car of the Brévent.
Many winter ski lifts are also located near Planpraz. In May 2012, the old reinforced concrete towers of the original Planpraz cable car were dismantled.
