chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Miséricorde de Nanterre
Notre-Dame-de-la-Miséricorde Chapel is a Catholic church located at 54 rue André-Doucet in Nanterre (Hautes-de-Seine), in the Chemin de l'île district.
Description: Consisting of a folding of wood panels, it presents a distinctive architecture adapted to the vocation of the place.
History: This church has been rebuilt three times since 1948. The very first building - a wooden hut - had been built by the inhabitants of the slums themselves, on a plot of 2,000 m2, as well as its heavy metal cross. Located at 48 rue d'Argenteuil – formerly known as rue André-Doucet – it is dedicated to Notre Dame de la Miséricorde. The structure eventually fell into ruins, and some inhabitants built a sort of prefabricated structure in the 1970s. Then, in 2008, the Public Development Institution of the Seine Arche Defense proposed to build a new chapel, at its own expense, on a neighbouring plot. The new chapel was consecrated on 19 October 2013.
