Tres Tabernæ
Tres Tabernæ is the name of the present city of Saverne in the Gallo-Roman era. In the immediate vicinity of the site already exists in the Gaulish era a fortification, the oppidum of the Fossé des Pandours. The city, little mentioned by the ancient authors, already exists in the first century C.E.
according to archaeological evidence. The excavations undertaken since the 19th century have revealed a number of remains that are preserved within the Rohan Castle Museum. As a result of numerous quarries of pink sandstone, archaeologists have been able to identify many lapidary elements preserved in situ since antiquity and understand the Gallo-Roman past of the present city.
