Church building
église Saint-Léger de Cognac
The church of Saint-Léger is the largest of the churches of Cognac. Former priorial of Benedictines, it is today the main parish church of the city. Built from 1130 on, it was enlarged and redesigned over the next three centuries, which explains the presence of many architectural styles, a unique assemblage in an area where Romanesque style predominates. Located at the intersection of the pedestrian streets Aristide Briand and Angoulême, in the heart of the historic centre, it has been listed as a historic monument since May 28, 1883.
