Church building
église Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux de Strasbourg
The church Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux is an ancient church located in the city of Strasbourg. It is a simultaneum, a church building dedicated jointly to Protestant and Catholic denominations. Built from 1381 to 1428, the church moved to the Reformation in 1529.
From 1683 it became a simultaneum. The nave, capped, was Protestant, and part of the choir, split in two, was reserved for Catholic canons and then for the Catholic parish recreated from 1867. Around 1900, the choir was demolished to allow the construction, perpendicular to the Protestant nave, of the present Catholic church with its bell tower, while the medieval bell tower was preserved.
The building has been listed as historic monuments since 18 December 1981.
