The château d'Annecy is a 12th-century old castle, rebuilt several times, notably by the Dukes of Savoie (1430 and 1487, 1533 and 1571), by the Savoie-Nemours, which stands in the commune of Annecy in the department of Haute-Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Former residence of the Counts of Geneva, then of the Dukes of Savoie-Nemours, the castle of Annecy is since 1953 the property of the city that restored it and transformed it into a museum.
The Château d'Annecy is located in the French department of Haute-Savoie on the commune of Annecy, on the last rocky promontory of Semnoz, forming a spur that dominates the city to the south, at 470 meters altitude. He monitored the road from Geneva to Italy, at the outlet of the lake cluse, as well as the bridges that crossed the lake emissary. Overlooking the Thiou and its island, the view covered the entire area of the Fins plain.
We don't know anything about it, except that it's very old. There would have been a fortress in the eighth century. The first known mention dates from 10 October 1219 (castra), when the house of Geneva made it its main residence...
