Workshop
atelier des produits résineux de Luxey
The softwood workshop was founded in the mid-19th century by Louis and Jacques Vidal in the commune of Luxey in the French region of the Landes de Gascogne. If this former gem factory produced turpentine essence and colophan, it now serves as a museum.
The Vidal estate and its industrial buildings: The softwoods workshop consists of three buildings located near the pine forest from which the resin was extracted. The first building allowed artisans to store the raw material at the reception of the gem and resin. The function of the second building was to transform this raw material into colophan and turpentine. Finally, the third served as a warehouse to store finished products ready for export. The proximity of this set of buildings to the banks of a creek enabled the workshop to function smoothly. In addition, the wooded area of the softwood workshop also housed houses for the many artisans.
