About

The church of Saint-Aubin de Jouy-le-Châtel, in Seine-et Marne, is listed in the additional inventory of the Historic Monuments on April 28, 1926. It is located in the heart of the old medieval enclosure of the village, delimited nowadays by the rue des Fossés. If Jouy belonged to Thibaut I, Count of Blois and Champagne in 978, the early construction would go back to the 11th century, when this church belonged to the chaplains of the Cathedral of Reims.

Église Saint-Aubin (Jouy-le-Châtel)

Built in the early Gothic age (1100-1130), it is representative of local architecture due to its materials (grey) and the morphology of its bell tower, even though, inside, the influence of the Champagne is evident. This vast Benedictine plan building, includes the nave and two sides finished by chapels today for sacristy use. Each century will bring major changes in the 16th century, especially in the southern collateral.
