The American Memorial, also known as Liberty in Distress, an American monument or monument to Varredes, is a monument in Meaux, France. The statue was designed by American sculptor Frederick William MacMonnies and dedicated in 1932 to the First World War Allies who fought during the first battle of the Marne in 1914, during World War I. The statue is located in the northeast of Meaux, on the road to Varreddes, near the Museum of the Great War of the Land of Meaux built in 2011. It was listed as historic monuments on 6 February 1990.
