The Gros Murs covered aisle is a covered aisle located at the Mureaux in the Yvelines department.
History: It was discovered in 1888 by M. Brault by digging a hole to plant a tree in his garden at 19 rue des Murets aux Mureaux. The site was searched in 1889 by René Verneau of the National Museum of Natural History. In 1895, the building was consolidated with concrete pillars to support certain roof tables. The landowner donated it to the state around 1920. The building has been listed as a historic monument since 1928.
Description: The aisle was built at an altitude of 25.50 m on a high point of an alluvial plain. All the stones used for its construction had to be brought on site, probably from a escarpment located about 4 km away. The driveway is aligned on a north-west/south-east axis, with the entrance opening to the southeast. The chamber is 9.72 m long with a width of 2.10 m to 1.70 m. The height goes from 1.60 m at the bedside to 1.55 m near the entrance. It is bounded by fifteen orthostates in sandstone and a bedside slab in pudingue. The whole is covered with five sandstone or stone covering tables...
