chapelle de Vignemont
The chapel of Vignemont is a former chapel located in the commune of Loches in Indre-et-Loire, France. It was built at the end of the 12th century. It has a status as a ceramic chapel, but it may also be annexed to a parish church. The walls of the nave are, in the Middle Ages, covered with frescoes very degraded in contemporary times. A victim of several accidents, including the collapse of its vaults at a time difficult to specify, the chapel was sold as a national good at the Revolution. Registered as historic monuments in 1989, it was restored in the late 2000s.
Location: The chapel is located south of the medieval city of Loches, near the edge of the hillside of the Indre valley, at the end of the path of the chapel of Vignemont. Its great axis observes a strict east-west orientation. As soon as it was built, it was separated from the city of Loches by a ditch dug around 1030, and then overcast at the end of the 12th century. Below, to the east, along the left bank of Indre, passes the ancient path from Loches to Châtillon-sur-Indre.
