chapelle Saint-Jean-Baptiste de la Croix-au-Bost
The chapel Saint-Jean-Baptiste de la Croix-au-Bost is located at La Croix-au-Bost in the present commune of Saint-Domet, in the Creuse. Built for the Order of Hospitallers in the 13th century, it is dedicated to the Takeoff of Saint John the Baptist and is classified as a historical monument.
History: The first sources concerning the Templar settlement at La-Croix-au-Bost come from the archives of neighbouring abbeys, especially those of Bonlieu, with mentions in 1180, 1204 and 1246 for economic affairs. By the end of the 13th century, despite the bishop, the Hospitallers seemed to function almost as an autonomous parish, except for the great festivals where the population had to go to the original parish church, Saint-Domet. The church once had a round tower with an hors-oeuvre screw, where the Hospitallers lived and destroyed during the French Revolution. The parish was reunited with that of Saint-Domet around 1841-1843.
Protection: The church is classified as a historic monument by decree of 25 September 1989.
