Church building
église Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais de Civaux
The church Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais de Civaux, located in the Vienne department, is one of the oldest in France. It is dedicated to Saint Gervais and Saint Protais, two twin brothers, martyred in the first century. Worship is widespread in the Poitou after the discovery of the bodies of these two martyrs in 386 in Milan.
There are also other churches in the vicinity with the same name: L'Isle-Jourdain, Millac, Persac and Nérignac. The present building is the result of major restructuring over the centuries, thus demonstrating its seniority.
