About

Saint-Clément Church, listed as historic monuments since September 25, 2001, is located in the centre of the village of Saint-Euphrône (Côte-d'Or). Oriented southwest / northeast, the church is surrounded by the cemetery, and is bordered to the north by the property of the old cure. Formerly parish church in the name of Saint-Clément, it has the peculiarity of being the undivided property with the cemetery of four communes: Saint-Euphrône, Pont-et-Massène, Villars-Villenotte and Juilly.

This place of worship was mentioned in the ninth century. In 1220, the domain of Saint-Euphrône came under the priory of Notre-Dame de Semur-en-Auxois. The current vessel building has a two-span vaulted choir on cross-sections of quadripartite warheads.

The mouluration of the columns and the decorations of foliage on the capitals evoke a dating in the 13th century. The southeast access door to trilobed tympanum corresponds to the same style and dating. The nave preserves traces of painting dating from the beginning of the sixteenth century, including a character holding a hawk and a holy bishop in prayer.
