About

Amphoralis is a large pottery production site in Sallèles-d'Aude near Narbonne in Aude, Occitanie region (Languedoc-Roussillon), France. It operated from the 1st to the 3rd century (period of the High Roman Empire), essentially following the Roman model. Its most immediate characteristic is the mass production of wine amphoras from the middle of the first century.

From 1976 on, for nearly a quarter of a century, under the direction of Fanette Laubenheimer, an archaeologist at the CNRS, it was completely preserved. Amphoralis, both an archaeological site and a museum built above the excavated areas and reconstructed ancient buildings and ovens, opened in December 1992.
