Château Bellegarde is located in the commune of Rion-des-Landes, in the French department of Landes. Today it welcomes the services of the town hall.
History: In 1838 the Beauregard Castle was built by Jacques Maque (1791-1854), owner of a resin workshop, it is the largest taxable fortune of the city in 1826 and is the mayor of the commune from 1833 to 1838. He donated the building in 1854 to his daughter Madeleine Dufourg (1836-1910), when he married Bernard Victor Poisson (1828-1875). The older son of the couple, Jacques Bernard Albert Poisson, added the side tower (between 1907 and 1928). On his death in 1931, leaving many debts, his property was auctioned at a candle sale at the court hearing in Saint-Sever. The Beauregard castle is thus acquired by the commune, under the mandate of Dr. Bellegarde with the intention of installing the town hall, that is where it takes the name of Château Bellegarde. But the castle, according to historical events, in turn welcomed Republican refugees from the Spanish war, displaced people from Alsace, especially from Blotzheim in September 1939.
